Risbygate Sports Club is located on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, an ancient market town in the county of Suffolk, which is famed for its beautiful Abbey Gardens and, more recently, completion of the magnificent tower atop St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
Bury St Edmunds has around 100,000 inhabitants and is situated equidistant between Ipswich and Cambridge. The town lies alongside the busy A14 trunk road which links the Port of Felixstowe and the Midlands. With the arrival of a multi-screen cinema and restaurant complex, together with the newly opened ‘arc’ shopping centre (a development on the site of the town’s former cattle market) the town has undergone significant expansion.
Risbygate Club is run by a management committee comprising representatives drawn from each of the seven sections. It has approximately 850 members who are able to enjoy various sporting and social activities and who hold a variety of fund-raising events throughout the year, supporting the local St Nicholas Hospice and McMillan Cancer Relief.
Externally the site accommodates two bowling greens, four tennis courts and a practice court, an area for petanque and a large car park. Internally there is a four rink bowling green, two squash courts, changing rooms and shower facilities. The clubhouse is fitted out with two bars, each with its own lounge area, and is available for hire by organisations or individuals for meetings, wedding receptions, parties etc. Please contact the club secretary for details of cost etc, on the telephone number below.
Potential members are welcome to make further enquiries via the web site or by personal visit to the club’s office (01284 755143) which is manned weekdays usually between the hours of 9.00 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.
